Through the Mirror, Tales from Childhood
Through the Mirror, Tales from Childhood
I continue to work towards creating greater interest for music.
With this in mind I wanted to create a piece that would appeal to both children and adults.
Gregory Warren Wilson as both a superb musician and wordsmith is the ideal librettist to work with.
I also wanted to further develop the notion of musician as character and to celebrate that each of the members of the ensemble have a solo movement.
Thus
Soprano Flea
Alto Mouse
Tenor Bull
Baritone Ant
Violin 1 Grasshopper
Violin II Tortoise
Viola Ass
Cello Crow
Apart from the solo movements the singers serve to describe the story and emotion of the piece as do the instrumentalists.
The head dresses are a theatrical element to further emphasise the role of soloist.
I also enjoy the juxtaposition of the more formal concert dress and the pantomine like quality of the head dresses.
Why?
My latest album and family project
Through, the Mirror. Tales from Childhood.
Libretto by Gregory Warren Wilson
Album released by Proprius.
Head dresses designed by Kirsten Brink.
